It's summertime and you know what that means. BBQ's, rollin' down the street in the convertibles, hot women wearing skimpy clothing and better yet, the three B's: Beers, Buds (friends or the green variety) and Babes. And anything that has to do with fun in the sun is made better with some good tunes. This month I'm bringing some of my favorite summer jams to the table. Songs you can cruise to, songs with that mellow summer vibe to play at your next BBQ (next weekend for me) and just music that gives you that summer time vibe. We don't have the most rarest of rare joints this year, just the "classics" as seen by yours truly. Enjoy and I'm always open to photos sent of bikini clad women dancing to some of these joints at your next BBQ, keep ole Trav in mind!!!!

Nice Trav...great (and drunk) minds think alike on the Rodney O tracks. That Nine album is vastly underrated IMO. Cheers.
no Dove Shack "Summertime In the LBC"?
Nice post Trav. Another nice one would be Warren G's "Regulate", Bone Thugs "Crossroads" and much props on the Rodney O & Joe Cooley. Can't have a summer without them. Keep up the great posts.

If I knew how to do those bloggy linky dink things, I'd have a cool little list!! Haha, I'm old and not up on the new wave eHip Hop computerizing...
on a side note, i just noticed that most of the songs that were listed (by me or wydu) are west coast joints... which brings me to thinking about how music reflects what goes on in each region culturally. summer of sam, do the right thing, the summer heat seems to boil over for NY and the east coast, while the West is stereotyped by its summer laidback-ness (the weather, the sunshine, the beach, the chillin out). You don't hear too much "Yo Dun, it's summer in the Bay Yo, Im mad mad so let's go stomp out some kids with our Tims"... You also don't hear too much "Dude, it's like hella hot out in the Brooklyn, let's go like cruise down to Flatbush with the top down, bruh"
DJ Quik "Summber Breeze", come on, that's the joint.
Great mix. In the summer, I usually jam 93 Til Infinity, the first 2 Pete & CL albums and ATCQ's whole discography on my iPod and lounge in the sun.
Commish, word, it's time for some beer pong.
Anon, that joint hit me on the way to work this morning. I might post a revised version, can't leave that song out.
Headjerk, yeah, Regulate is another great one.
Omen, you can teach an old dog new tricks, I'm an old fogey as well. Let me know if you need help with it. Those are good tracks. And you got me curious with that Bored Stiff track. I've heard of them, but haven't heard them.
I was thinking the EXACT same thing when I was putting this together last night about summer jams being more of a west coast vibe and for the main reasons you mentioned.
PDT "The Anti Social" hahaha, yeah, I was trying to think of a Quik track to use, that just slipped by me.
Aaron, I should have put some Pete & CL
Trav, hit me up at www.myspace.com/bowlofmeatmusic when you have a chance... and in case anyone is wondering, this is definitely not some shameless myspace self-promotion, haha...
this is also right on that borderline so i might as well throw in a "no homo".
Driving to work the other day in the sun...look down at ipod...tune to DJ Jazzy Jeff and the Fresh Prince. Ahhh, summer is right around the corner! Good call!
Not sure if I would call it hip hop, but I also picture Kain(sp?) rollin up to the BBQ in Menace II Society bumping Computer Love by Zap and Roger..."Computeriiiizzzzed"!
trav looks like with all the suggestions you might have to make a 2nd 2008 summer mix
I'd like to add dowutchyalike by digital underground. Always brings BBQs/beer/bikini's up for me. Dont know why.
Nice mix. Even though it is cold as #$% down here.
man this is a dope list, that Nine joint used to be my lil bro's favorite hit back in the day. I'ma download this and send it to him, tell him to check it out.
Nice tracks for the summertime ridin. Definetly missing a couple bangers i could think of but overall a nice collection of music for the time.
