What's That Sample From???
I've never been a DJ. My production sounds worse than two midgets beating on garbage cans full of howler monkeys. So needless to say I've never done much diggin' in the crates if you knowhatimsayin. I like to think I'm fairly uppity up on my hip hop knowledge, but one area I've always lacked a lot of knowledge in was where all these samples come from. The sources for them. What's the orginal composition sound like?
I credit my mom with installing the love of music in me. She listened to all types of music.
Anything from Chuck Mangione (Flugelhorn player) to The Beatles, to any number of Jazz players. So while hip hop is my first love, I geniunely love music. In my earlier years, I could give a rip about the orginal compositions. But a few years ago I ran into a Tom Scott album, that included the song that Pete Rock sampled those horns on "T.R.O.Y" and wanted to find more about samples and where they came from.
There are more and more compulations popping up around that include these orginal songs. My man Casio Hardcore himself, aka Tommy B over at Miscreant Productions has hammered up one such of these Sample Source compulations. Free download, free music. Some classics....check it out

It's The Liks Baby, It's The Liks!!!
One of my favorite groups has got to be the Alkaholiks. Ever since I heard E-Swift and J-Ro on King Tee's "Tha Trifflin' Album", I've been hooked on the fun flowin' style they put out there. As I'm sure everyone has heard by now, Tha Liks latest album "Firewater" will be their last. They've been pretty consistant in their music. Sure, some people were disappointed by "The X.O. Experiance" and I'm hearing mixed reviews on "Firewater", but their first three albums rival any other artists first three albums in terms of quality.
The trio has been a group since 1988, and orginally went by the name "Everyday Street Poets". These demo's (who I got off a blog, although I can't remember which one about a year ago) are in the same classic flavor as "21 & Over". They'll be missed. Thanks for the music!
Kind of short and sweet again, I did a lot of writing this weekend, so I'm not totally into doing much more.
I do have a special treat coming sometime this week so be on the look for that.

Please Listen To My Demo...Part Dos
This is going to be one of those "Make myself look like I know what I'm talking about" posts when I'm not really doing anything special. This is going to be quick and to the point, not much "educational" value will be found in this update since I'm in "hurry the hell up" mode. Just wanted to throw a little something out there before the natives grew restless. Again, all the folks from the CB crew aren't going to find anything new on this either as I'm hijacking a couple songs from a compulation posted there along with a song I already posted myself...sorry, next post, I promise.
First song of today is Big Daddy Kane and Kool G Rap on a demo version of "Raw" one of my top 5 hip hop songs of all time.

D-Nice was once part of BDP, hell everyone thats down with this era of hip hop knows this. His first album was a nice one indeed, but these demos sound even better. They are taken off of a Red Alert show, but they're the demo versions of these songs
