Lady Daisey - Magical Remixes

For Lady Daisey, the hits just keep on coming. If you remember right, we've been previewing the songs for her first single, "Magical," from her upcoming album, In My Pocket. The digital single features the original and four remixes from her friends, DJ Vadim, Supa Dave West, Paten Locke and Batsauce. Today, we have not only the Supa Dave West remix for the masses, but we also have a (key the music) WORLD-WORLD-WORLD-WORLD P-P-Premiere, with Paten Locke's remix. Did I mention, it's the first time heard anywhere?

You may remember Supa Dave West from his De La Soul fame. He did some production for artists such as De La Soul and Phife. It's good to see him add his twist to the creation of the single. It's a rather dope beat that fits well.

Lady Daisey - Magical "Supa Dave West Remix"

The second is probably my favorite so far and of course it's from Paten Locke. Paten just takes the original concept and adds on to it. I'm not sure if it's better than the original, but it's just as enjoyable.

The WYDU Affliation Day...

It's Friday, you ain't got no job, and you ain't got shit to do! Well, I wish it was like that today, unfortunately I have to work today. So be it, that's my favorite saying, well that and "Oh f*ckin' well", but that never goes over well in saved quotes on sites like facebook and all that B.S. Oh f*ckin' well.....

Anyway, here at WYDU, we have been blessed to have met and affiliated ourselves with some great people and some great artists. If you visit here enough, you know who I support with my full name behind. I do it because I believe in their music and want to get it out there to as many as people. I want you all to think like me, because naturally I have impeccable taste in music. Alright, so maybe I don't want you all to think like me, godforbid that would happen, but still I believe enough in the cats I push.

And today, we happen to have three of my self appointed WYDU affiliates with new projects/singles/ and/or videos...so let's jump into it.

Has-Lo - Breezin b/w Present Is A Gift

WYDU resident hip hop artist/writer Has-Lo drops a new single with DeeJay Tone, whom you might remember as producing "Commentary Pt.1" on Has' Small Metal Objects EP from 2008. I've always thought these two made a good pairing, and they don't fail to impress on this latest single. Has comes with a more upbeat style, something I've always encouraged to do more of. The first track, "Breezin'," utilizes a nice George Benson sample (and borrows heavily on the album cover as well). It's a great spring time track to get those juices flowing and feel the warm spring breeze on ones face. The b-side kicks loose with "Present Is A Gift," in which Has drops some more merry lyrics for those spring time convertible rides.

Poorly Drawn People frontman Reason and producer Falside set their sights on the shaky foundations that serve as the basis for most post-MySpace-age rap collaborations on "I Don't Want to Build", the second single from Reason's sophomore LP, Landlords & Lullabies (out April 6 on Poorly Drawn Recordings).

Reas serves notice to inflated-ego 'netcees with his precisely executed rants: "These suckers get exposed, oh what? you been genre-hopping? well you ain't Tarantino - every month your album's droppin... if it wasn't for the Internet, your ass wouldn't exist." In the background, sidekick Dirty Hank scatters his manic vocal accents over Falside's bouncing hypnotics, which act as a perfect complement to the message of the track.

Click here for your FREE DOWNLOAD of "I Don't Want To Build":

Reason's Landlords & Lullabies is available April 6, 2010. Click here for a special pre-order package including the CD and a grip of free bonus items.

Lady Daisey - Magical (OG Album Version)

bbe114sdg_cover_1500pxls

Then of course, no WYDU affiliation post would be complete without one of the Smile Rays members making an appearance. Lady Daisey, one third of the Smile Rays, has one of my most anticipated non hip hop albums on my radar with In My Pocket. The album will be droppin this coming May on BBE Records. And of course she has one the most slept on hip hop producers the world has ever known in Batsauce (Surreal, Mr.Lif) doing the beats for her as well. The funk/soul singer is preparing to release her first solo album and is getting set to release the digital single, "Magical". The song is a powerful and, well, magical ode to life itself. This week, the original album version has been released. In coming weeks, we'll see remixes by Paten Locke, DJ Vadim, Supa Dave West (of De La Soul fame), and another by Batsauce. We'll be getting first glimpse at a series of videos that will be dropping weekly until the album drops in seven weeks from now. See them here first.....

Lady Daisey has rocked venues around the globe - from small smokey clubs to massive hip hop festivals - her message is one of love and inspiration, soulfully presented over head noddin' Batsauce beats. Singing since she was 5, Lady Daisey has developed a playful powerhouse style that's sure to grab the attention and steal the hearts of everyone within ear's reach. It's like sunshine for your soul... This is Daisey & Batsauce's first BBE release and features many special mixes including tracks DJ Vadim & Lil' Ste and Supa Dave West.

Cupid Hates You.....But Hallmark Loves You

I hate Valentines day, it's a rather pointless holiday. One for the card makers, jewelers, and candy makers. Oh well, for those of you that are getting down like that, we got some gems for you. We even got something for those of you that aren't down with it, or just don't have anyone to share this crapshot of a holiday. Call it our soundtrack from some "between the sheets" type of activities.

And if you are bored, you go check out my Valentine's day rant from 2007 and get some WYDU Tips to survive V-day. (I was a little pissy in those days...)

http://www.wydublog.com/2007/02/more-wydu-classics-valentines-day-wydu.html

Dillon Maurer - "Cupid's Revenge: The Ain't Shit Suite" (Produced by Batsauce)

First off, we start off on more of an "anti-Valentines Day" rant from my peoples Dillon Maurer and Batsauce. Being a big fan of both of these cats, it's great to see Dillon and Bat hook up to produce a Valentines Day Suite. Dillon rants about a lost love over some SOULFUL Batsauce beats. It's perfect for those of you out there trying to mend a broken heart. Of course it gets happier on this (just under) ten minute ride toward the end as Dillon gets his "Space Pimpin'" on, getting back in the saddle. This is the one to jam, even if you aren't hating the opposite sex this messed up holiday day.

- "Cupid's Revenge: The Ain't Shit Suite"
Its real quick - 5 beats / 8 minutes, produced by Batsauce (of The Smile Rays,
Lady Daisey, and more...)

The Movement Family Valentine's Mixtape: Second Time Sweeter

The good people at the Movement Family (Cee & Bekah, Notion, Tommy Gunnz, Theory, Micnificent and DJ Grain) have teamed up WYDU and Kevin Nottingham to bring you some classic "baby makin' music", of course for the new decade. Last year, you know you laid some pipe to the tunes brought to you by DJ Grain and the crew. Well it's the same for this year as well.

Download The Movement Fam Presents The Valentine's Day Mixtape Volume 2: Second Time Sweeter mixed by DJ Grain

The Movement Fam's Valentine's Day Mixtape, entitled Second Time Sweeter.

This year, we've hit y'all with the same smooth blend of tunes to soundtrack your day, ranging from neo-soul, to reggae, soulful Hip Hop, acoustic rock and everything in between. Y'all also get TWO exclusive songs this year; one from The Movement Fam's own Cee & Bekah ('Something You Forgot'), and another from The Lessondary Crew's Jermiside ('Time Flies').

Singles Awareness Day 2 [S.A.D. #2: The Mix Compilation]

My man Modi over at DCtoBC is also helping out the solo cats and vixens out there get thru the holiday as well. Some good ish going down on this one as well.

S.A.D. Singles Awareness Day 2 [S.A.D. #2: The Mix Compilation].

It’s here. Dedicated to all maneaters, heartbreakers, and hopeless romantics – you know who you are. Proceed to download. It’s an epic one, I think.

I appreciate all the support greatly. Like the last one, there’s no playlist. 38 songs, all different artists, and all in the theme of the mixtape’s title in some way, shape, or form. All feedback is appreciated, and if it’s really in depth or you’d rather it not be in the comment section or something, send me an e-mail: modi[at]DCtoBC[dot]com. - Modi

Dj Matt Cali & Russel Fong Present "Luvsick" A Love Song Mix....

I had to include anything that has A Tribe Called Quest AND Christopher Cross on it. I'll even over look the fact that REO Speedwagon is on here (if I ever hear another one of their songs, it'll be too soon). I like the variety, haven't had a chance to listen to it, but the dudes are usually come proper with it

WYDU Mid Way Report Day Two: Top 5 Instrumental Albums

I've been on a BIG instrumental kick lately, for the past year and a half or so. I'm a beats first person. I haven't always been that way, in my younger years, I was all about lyrics. I could recite any of the first three Run DMC albums, LL's Bigger & Deffer, the Beasties Licensed To Ill. Somewhere along the way though, my fascination started with beats and the music. It might be because in the 80's, it was all about a drum machine and some 808, which I still love, but it's not the most intricate music ever. Beats started playing more of a roll in the actual music and I've been captivated ever since.

I think what appeals to me is I can throw an instrumental album while doing shit around the house, or at work, or in the car and I can just zone out to it. I have the tendency to get rather wrapped up in the beats though, tapping out drum patterns and humming bass lines. Great for just vibing out on a Sunday afternoon as well.

This year, the top five instrumental albums are some of my favorite projects of the year, all possibly taking a spot in my top projects of the year so far. After that though, the reason why I didn't listen to many instrumental joints before Dilla's Donuts kicks in, which means sometimes they were just beats, nothing more and nothing less. Nothing wrong with that, but these listed here today are more than just beats, they are an album. You get more bang for your buck. Any of these five could be thrown on at any time and get my head noddin'.

5. Batsauce - Spy Vs. Spy

If I had to make a list of my top five favorite current producers, Batsauce would rank right near the top on that list. After dropping 1971 and the EXCELLENT Gypsy Diaries, Bat came with the James Bond/Spy movies themed Spy Vs Spy. It's just like it sounds, music that inspires a motion picture of spies, whining dining, crashes, double crossing and love making. Batsauce executes the concept quite well and gives the project an added replay value to it. It's still got that typical Bat sound (he has a "sound", one that sounds dusty, yet funky). Bat continues to show why he should be the next "up and coming" producer (check the three beats he has on Mr. Lif's new album). The Bat to the Sauce is only going to get better and better.

4. Diego Bernal - For Corners

Who would have thought it, a lawyer making INCREDIBLE beats. Coming from absolutely now where, this civil rights attorney has turned in the surprise album of the year, and I'm not just talking about instrumentals. The whole project For Corners by Austin, Texas native Diego Bernal, is phenomenal. I have this in my top 10 albums of the year so far, so that goes o show you what I think of the top three albums. I don't even remember how I ran across this project or where I found it, probably HHB or something, but from the very first track, Diego's Donut (RIP Dilla), you are hipped to something that you know is going to be special. I was hesitant at first seeing the title for the first song, thinking this would be another Dilla imitation, but far from it. You can sense that Diego was inspired by Dilla (who isn't in this day of age), but Diego does his own thing, with a latin swing. Dusty samples, horns and bass lines scatter the soundscape and turn this project into an INCREDIBLE piece of work. The best of all? It's free.....BUT you can purchase a hard copy (mine is coming this week) from Exponential Records

Website: http://www.myspace.com/diegobernalmusic

About:
For Corners is the first full length album from Diego Bernal, a civil rights attorney and beatsmith, located in San Antonio, TX. For Corners is Diego Bernal's love letter to the music, cultures, era and people that nurtured him.

The music is dusty and layered with Latin soul, from the triumphant blasts of horns to the laid back groove of lowrider melodies. It is a call to return to the simplicity and integrity of hip-hop's best moment and an invitation to enjoy a slightly different kind of southern comfort. Not so much dirty south as directly south. The full album is a completely free download. Enjoy!

3. Exile - Radio

Exile is a producer that has steadily moved up my ranks of favorite producers for awhile now. I always dug his work with Aloe Blacc as Emanon and of course his contribution to this decade's classic Below The Heavens with Blu is something that legends are made of. My fondness for Radio comes in two parts, the first being the creativeness that went into it. Using stuff he found of the radio (read the CDs liner notes to get the full appreciation) is something that I'm pretty sure no one did before. The more I watch him do stuff like this, the more appreciation I have for what he created on Radio. Second, it's just good music.

In Love from Yours Truly on Vimeo.

2. Kid Hum - Fossil Fuel

Know the name Kid Hum, and know it well. This kid outta Denver (now residing on some tropical island out in the Pacific) dropped one of the most incredible instrumental albums I've heard in....well, a long ass while. This album got me through the slow months of January and February music wise. I would play it so much, I would wake up in the middle of the night with a beat going through my head from Kid Hum's Fossil Fuel project. I still play it on a weekly basis. There are just some catchy tunes going on, with a variety of sample sources (I'm not going to pretend I know all of them, but trust me, it's varied). I've been singing his praises since late last year when he first showed up on the scene with the Whygee & Sunkstate project Suicide Watch. The three track stretch of "Prayer", "Church", and "Bells" haunted my subconscious like nothing since Donuts. I think Kid Hum has a fan base that is just waiting to discover him. The album was turned into a vocal project, which is nice and all, but I still find myself going back to the instrumentals more often than not.

1. Blueprint - Sign Language

It was a tight race between the top four projects. Blueprint's edged the others out, simply because I still come home and play this to wind down after a long day at work, or during those "special" moments with M.J. if you know what I mean. When you only have six tracks on your project, there isn't much room for mistakes and on Sign Language, there are no mistakes, only great, emotion stirring tracks. I have always liked Blueprint, but this release caught me by somewhat surprise. I just wish there was a vinyl release for it, that's the only thing I can fault it for.

For those of you not familiar with Batsauce (shame on you), Bat is one third of The Smile Rays, one of my personal favorite groups, who have made NUMEROUS appearances on WYDU. Bat is an incredibly talented producer, who always brings his own flavor and sound to his music.

I'll be honest, I haven't had the chance to listen to this latest release, Spy Vs. Spy, nor do I have the inside story behind it. It's hot off the press and maybe we'll ask Bat for the inside scoop behind this one of these days, but for now, just let the good viberations role, whether you are at work, getting ready for class, or just loafing it....

5x5 Day Four: Dillon & Batsauce's Five Favorite Songs Dealing With Food (Kinda)

Two of my favorite people in hip hop, Bat and Dillon bless us with their own top five list, songs dealing with food. Those not on the know, Dillon is like on some five star chef type of thing, hence the food references that seem to go down with his music and Batsauce....well, I'm not sure what is all in a bat sauce, but I think I'll pass. At least he makes good beats!

Dillon & Batsauce's Favorite Rap songs dealing with food (kinda .. .)
(Written by Dillon as Bat is currently in a food coma)

1) Camp Lo - Luchini - I don't know if Luchini is food, or drink, or what the fuck it is to be honest, but this joint is my one of all-time favs (still dont really know why - I know every lyric and have no clue what any of it means). And I guess it kinda sounds like Linguini? Porcini (Mushrooms)? Chimichanga?

2) Biz Markie - Pickin Boogers - Who eats their boogers?! I'm not saying I do, but if you do - then you can feel the Biz on this joint - it very well may be on some food shit for ya. Word is not bond on that, fam. Handle that.

3) Main Source feat. Nasty Nas, Fatal, Akineyle - Live at The BBQ - When young Nas says, "Poetry attacks, paragraphs punch hard /My brain is insane, I'm out to lunch God "
I don't think I'm the only one who wondered - "Where ya going to lunch, Nas? Can we link up? Wanna get some dumplings or some shit? Or kidnap the president's wife without a plan?"

4) Snoop Doggy Dogg - Gin N Juice - Yah! Gotta love a drink that gets you fucked up, and boosts your immune system at the same time. This shit is damn near 2 food groups! I'm a young cat, and this was my shit in 5th grade - classic material from the Dogg Father!

5) The Pharcyde - Otha Fish - okay, so technically The Pharcyde were talking about a different kind of fish (probably), but I'll be damned if fish - (when it is fresh and wild-caught) isn't the mega brain food, so these cats were definitely on to something!

**Runner-up - Chef Raekwon - Ice Cream (I'm lactose intolerant - so I fronted)

Of course this mega ties-in with my food blog: www.DillonAteThat.com - so peep that.
And you know the drill - Batsauce.com if you need them beats!

New music from Dillon coming soon - "Studies in Hunger" produced by Therapy / P.Locke - and Bat and I are currently working on our record together here in Berlin - so be on the lookout - holla back fam

WYDU Exclusive: Batsauce of the Smile Rays - The Gypsy Diaries

Good day boys & girls, hopefully everyone is having a great day. We have another WYDU Exclusive, meaning you won't find this on any other blogs or any other sites (yet). My man Batsauce of the Smile Rays, is hooking us up with a treasure trove of instrumental beats. Readers of WYDU should be familiar with Bat and the Smile Rays, we've been a long time fans of the trio and even went so far as having a Smile Rays week back in May. I would have to say, I rank Bat in my top five favorite producers currently in the game right now, dude is one talented mofo behind the boards.

Bat brings the heat this time around in the form of The Gypsy Diaries, a unique collection of instrumental tracks. What's so "unique" about the The Gypsy Diaries? Well, Bat made them using music from different continents, South America, Asia, and Africa. All the sample sources embrace world music. It's something original indeed. I've been jamming these tracks for the better part of the summer, and it's some groovin' music to be sure!

It's not a traditional link, but trust me, it's easy. Click the website and just roll over the countries and download those bad boys. If the site does go down (it has in the past) just hit me up and I'll add some links to this post, but I don't foresee any problems. Don't be afraid to hit up Brother Bat and let him know what you think of his concoction. http://www.myspace.com/batsauce
