UGHH Interviews Mayer Hawthorne

The Mayer Hawthorne album is one of my favorites of the year, in any genre. Comprised of soulful melodies and that old school soul, it's one of those albums that you have to have on vinyl and jam on the turntable to get the true essence. My boys at UGHH sent this over to me, so here it is.....

Mayer Hawthorne - Interview Pt. 1 (Outside Of Great Scott's - Allston, MA - 9/29/09)

--------------------------------------

Video Summary:

"I think Mayer is the only artist in the history of the label that I've signed after hearing only two songs, sometimes, you just know it's the right thing to do." - Peanut Butter Wolf. While the name Mayer Hawthorne rings bells only recently, Hawthorne has established himself as a well known producer and DJ in the underground hip hop scene since the mid-90s as part of the seminal rap group Athletic Mic League and soul trio Now On. Hawthorne takes time out to sit down with UGHH.com and discuss the origins of his first solo masterpiece, "A Strange Arrangement." The content of the album can be most simply be classified as retro-soul, and was released on Stones Throw Records earlier this year.

Mayer Hawthorne - Interview Pt. 2 (Outside Of Great Scott's - Allston, MA - 9/29/09)

Video Summary:

Well-known for producing and DJing as one-seventh of the Ann Arbor rap collective Athletic Mic League, and one-third of the soul outfit Now On, Haircut talks about his metamorphosis into being a front man and selling out shows across the country as Mayer Hawthorne on the Lonely Hearts Club Tour. Hawthorne, whom brought his entire rap cassette collection on the road, recalls some of his favorite hip-hop tapes along with the origin of the name Haircut.
