Illa J - "We Here" Produced by J Dilla
	08.25.2008

First single from forthcoming Yancey Boys LP

The Song: Delicious Vinyl is proud to release the debut single by Illa J: "We Here" b/w "R U Listenin" featuring Guilty Simpson. Both tracks are produced by the legendary late producer Jay Dee (aka J Dilla), Illa J's older brother. "We Here" is all sizzle and gleam as Illa J ad-libs his mission statement: "Yancey Boys from Detroit, Michigan...comin' for that number one spot...'bout to rock the world!" Over the previously unheard Dilla track (from a cache of Jay Dee beats held in safety for a decade by Delicious Vinyl founder Michael Ross) Illa J's soulful tenor delivers the hook: "We poppin' bottles like it's first day of the year." Illa J confirms the feeling: "Somebody could be in a hoopty but the Jay Dee beat sound so good it make them feel like they riding in a Phantom." Illa J: "'We Here' is a celebration of waking up every day. Why not live out your dreams, why not try?" Of the lyric "Let's go crazy/ You saw Purple Rain" Illa J explains: "It's like Prince asking 'Are we gonna let the elevator break us down?' Naw, let's go all out! One of the things I learned from my brother is that you don't get that much time, so make the most of it. That's why I've decided to dedicate my life to doing what I love: music." "R U Listenin" is a thumpadelic tribute to Detroit featuring Stones Throw recording artist Guilty Simpson, Illa and Guilty trading hot verses "sending love to the 313." Of the collaboration, Guilty Simpson exclaims: "Illa J is a young talent in his own right with many dimensions - a real force who's obviously the product of great stock!" Delicious Vinyl's Michael Ross: "Anyone who loves Jay Dee is going to flip out when they hear how young Illa J represents for the Yancey family. For over a decade these beats have been waiting in the vault for this moment. It's like Jay Dee made these tracks with an extrasensory purpose, so that Illa J could rap and sing over them when the time was right. Well, it's that time. It's the Yancey Boys baby!" 2008 Hip Hop Leaders World Peace Conference brings at-risk youth, the community, celebrities, and musicians together for a common cause.

On Saturday, August 16th 1600 Avenue Inc., a 501C3 organization, and its flagship program Hip Hop Leaders (HHL) brought at-risk youth, the community, political figures, and an impressive number of celebrities, musicians, actors, and other influencers together in the name of unity, education, and a safer future for the youth.

(peace to Wes and Mike D for making the t-shirts)

The day started with intimate, powerful mentoring sessions with influential figures such as Scoop Deville, Spinderella (Salt-n-Pepa), Asya CEO of Fusicology.com, and Richard Gant (actor).

The day transitioned into a Town Hall meeting further discussing the serious challenges the youth face as well as solutions to those problems. The panel consisted of community-based celebrities like The Poetess, Sticky Fingaz, Lorenzo Murphy, 40 Glock, Ryan Ford of The Source, and Bone from “Training Day” along side community activists Donny Joubert of Nickerson Gardens, Gregory Thomas of Kush Inc., and Pastor Moses Collins of Glory Bound MBC. Together they all communed in the name of Peace and Progress.

Additionally Hip-Hop entertainers that also lent their time to this years events were: Akil (Jurassic 5), Arabian Prince (founder of NWA), DJ Mark Luv (Zulu Nation head), Paul Stewart, Porscha Coleman, Lauren London, Jackie Long, Terrence J of BET’s 106 and Park, comedian Alex Thomas, and Warren G who surprised the fans with a solo set at the end of the night under the moonlight on the UCLA Royce Hall Terrace. These influential Hip-Hop community members “gave back” by participating in a full day’s worth of “edu-tainment” to discuss issues of importance.

Hip Hop Leaders Founder Frank Satterwhite comments,

“Our hip hop leaders students as part of the year-round curriculum in schools, helped produce the HHL Conference, created a forum for victims of violence to be honored, and paid tribute to these same victims via spoken word. This is a proud moment.”

Special thanks to Media sponsors KDAY Radio, and Fusicology.com as well as the following elected officials who through their letters of support or direct involvement have spurred the HHL Program forward: U.S. Senator Dianne Feinstein, Congresswoman Maxine Waters, Congresswoman Linda Sanchez, Congresswoman Laura Richardson, CA-State Senator Mark Ridley Thomas, Assembly member Warren Furutani, Assembly member Mervin Dymally, Assembly member Mike Davis , Assembly member Elect Isadore Hall, Council woman Janice Hahn, Counil member Mike Gipson, Council member Steve Bradford. 1600 Avenue Director of Community Operations Demirea Perry also specially thanks Rock Tha Vote for being in attendance to help ignite at-risk youth to “be the changed” for years to come!

Tunes From the Inbox

Three recent albums that were sent to me for consideration to be included on the site. I'm not going to lie and say I feel everything I post. True, WYDU is a pretty good reflection of the kind of music I'm feeling, but I also realize that my tastes and views aren't the only ones out there. I like to add some variety that other people might feel, even if something isn't necessarily my thing. That said, all three of these albums are enjoyable and worth at least a listen. Hip hop is so saturated right now, and trust me, I probably realize better than most people that there is too much music out there. I have more stuff sent to me and albums to listen to than I can even imagine. But all three of these are worth the time to sit down and listen to. I'm not saying they are for everyone, but I know there will be people out there feelin' at least one of these. That said, on to the show...

Originally from Boston, MA and currently live in Orlando, Drect is a young MC coming up that has an unique sound, which is a refreshing attribute to have. He is also an budding entrepreneur, as he's the CEO of Grind Time Recordings. In the 2007 World Rap Championships he garnered a 2nd place in ATL Division.

"My aim is to make original and creative music without coming out as corny. I just want to relate to people while being able to do me at the same time. An artist without versatility is hardly an artist at all."

Kev Turner

I don't know much about Kev Turner, other than he is from the the Philly/Jersey area and his MC style lives up to the name of the mixtape; Straight RAW. It's straight up raw east coast hip hop, something that is kind of loss in today's gloss and floss "dunn" music coming out of the east coast. Fans of the traditional east coast sound should check this album out. "I'm A Star" is one of those joints I can play over and over.

Black Element album coming out on September 18th, 2008 called A Major Minority. I have a TON of new music to release before A Major Minority even drops (September 18th) and I will be dropping 3 MP3s to be dropped Monday, Wednesday and Friday for the next 3 weeks. This segment is called Missing ELements and it's showcasing myself and the producers who have put so much time and effort in this project, not to mention promote the album. The tracks which will be part of this Missing ELement segment are NOT on the album, but they are album quality tracks. I understand you are extremely busy, but if you could post these MP3s as timely as possible it would be greatly appreciated by me-- due to the fact that timing is everything with this project's promotion. So, attached I have the first leak, along with a promo graphic (which i have 9 of), thank you for your time and enjoy the music!

Black ELement - Ride It Out (Produced by Rami Afuni) :http://www.zshare.net/audio/17204559ff9d7db9/

Whenever an animal is backed into a corner or it's life is threatened, we have the instinct to fight back. The instinct is to survive and with war plaguing our nation over the last 40+'s years with ImAMajorMinority: pointless conflicts we as a people finally begin to seek for change. From generation to generation, though the technology of the weapons has changed the result and heartache stays the same. Families having loved ones fighting for a guy whose a million miles away, just so his son's trust fund can get a little bigger. War no matter the time, it effects us the same way until we can't take it anymore, until we ride out!

Missing ELements #2:
Ever since I first gripped the mic, people have been trying to tell me what I can or cannot do AND how I should spit over beats. Eventually, I realized 99% of these doods don't know what the fuck they are talking about! When I was Sixteen years old I met Talib Kweli and dood changed the whole direction of how I approached music with just two simple words-- "Do you." So, I'm going to do whatever I want with music. If I feel a like making a heavy metal track-- i'm going to do it. Fuck the naysayers...I don't need Confirmation!" Black ELement - Confirmation (prod. 6th Sense):

Fat Beats has just released a six-song sampler for this cross-genre epic, appropriately entitled The Hour Of Reprisal, which is set to drop September 16th. The sampler highlights the myriad sounds and flavors that have influenced ILL BILL ranging from edgy metal guitar parts to the raw hip-hop beats and production seen on every featured track. An ILL BILL verse has never been an aimless journey through 16 bars, but rather a threatening configuration of worldview, conspiracy theories, street corner politics and real-life experiences, and this album is no exception. Topics such as the war in Iraq, the unsettling and disturbing subject of racism, the senseless shootings at Virginia Tech University, the state execution of Stanley “Tookie” Williams and countless others surface, minus any air of exploitation, but with a slash of brutal awareness of challenging times.

About the album: The highly anticipated second solo album from Brooklyn's independent hip hop kingpin ILL BILL is finally scheduled for release on the Uncle Howie/Fat Beats label on September 16th, 2008. The former Non Phixion member and current La Coka Nostra riot-starter has surgically crafted a fine masterpeice featuring guest shots from Raekwon The Chef, Immortal Technique, La Coka Nostra, B-Real, Necro, Tech N9ne, Bad Brains, DJ Muggs, Howard Jones of Killswitch Engage, Max Cavalera of Sepultura/Soulfly, DJ Premier, Vinnie Paz and More.

Slowly, the west is starting to make some noise once again. Of course there is The Game that is dropping soon, my favorite west coast MC, Ras Kass just dropped earlier this month. It's a good thing to have a strong west coast for us hip hop fans, it gives us even more variety in the music we are exposed to. This album was sent to me by the MC himself, going by the name of C-San. For every album I post up, there are probably five that don't make it. As I mentioned before, I'm not trying to be a dick and I post up albums that sometimes I don't necessarily care for simply for the reason I don't want my personal tastes to dominate the site. With that being said, I was impressed with this free album. The cat has a nice flow and delivery and really rides over the soulful tracks. He has that west coast swagger, yet still shows the hunger and desire of a young MC. There is a lot of potential here.

C-San - The Birth

01. Intro Ft Three1zero
02. Alive Ft. Kent Jamz
03. LA Life Ft. sleezy and Casey V
04. Rocking With Us
05. Whole World Fading

Daily News

What's good party people? It's time for that daily feature that I do when I have the time...Some daily news. What do we have today? New Ice Cube album sampler, music from The Clipse, The KnuX, and Mekka Don. Free mixtape downloads from Spacebound from the Domination Recordings stable and Rebel Muzik Mixtape "Somethin' To Snack On"......

Then of course me pimpin' the new issue of Peak Street magazine.......

So, check out the freebies and the new joints.....

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Shameless Self Promotion: Peak Street Magazine

Yes, I like talking myself up, if you haven't noticed by now. In any case, one of the slickest magazines to come out in awhile is now on issue #2. If you lived "down under", then you can find Peak Street magazine for free in stores across the country. Those of us that live in the land where toilets flush the right way, well you can still get your copy. They are selling copies for international cats. Now I know the price tag is kinda spendy and you can buy a couple 12 packs of cheap beer, but for hip hop heads that dig print magazines, Peak Street is honestly one of a kind. It's one of the more original rags I've come across, and I've read a lot of hip hop magazines in my lifetime. Well worth checking out, if you are a hardcore hip hop head.

In this issue, you will also be treated to my own debut of sorts. If you remember right, Polarity and I scored a regular column in the mag. This month, not only do I appear in the monthly column, but I also have my first full length interview to appear in any magazine. I won't say who it's with (and NO, it's not Ace....unfortunately, but he is in those pictures), but it's some underground legends from an legendary underground label. That's all I'll say for now.....

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Ice Cube Album Sampler......

We've been talking about it for months and it's almost here for you to purchase. Ice Cube's latest solo album, "Raw Footage" is dropping on August 19th and is set to be one of the standout releases of 2008.

So far we've had the singles Do Ya Thang [watch the video - see behind the scenes] as well as the street single Gangsta Rap Made Me Do It. We also brought you the streaming audio of Get Used To It featuring The Game and WC furthering the talk that The Game is set to join Westside Connection in place of Mack 10 for a new album.

Today we are happy to present a 19 minute "Raw Footage" album sampler that showcases the tracks that will feature on the album.

Ice Cube - Raw Footage Album Sampler

Enjoy the new music and ensure you support Ice Cube and Lench Mob Records by picking up a copy when it drops on August 19.

New KnuX "Bang Bang"

Many, many months ago before I initially started working with The KnuX (before "Cappuccino" hit) Dart Parker sent me 5-6 tracks so I could get familiar with the group's material---before we delved headfirst into the campaign.

Needless to say, "Cappuccino" was an easy, if not safe choice to introduce the group to the masses. Yet, as I listened to the tracks Dart sent me, one track immediately and continually jumped out of the speakers and screamed SINGLE! Later that day, as I hopped into the ride and popped in "Bang! Bang!" on my way to pick up my 3-year old son from daycare, the only validation I needed was from said 3-year old as he and his old man trekked up the highway back home; both nodding our heads in simultaneous agreement (a true father and son bonding moment!!).

Before I was even back home, I was on the phone with Dart begging to be able to send out "Bang! Bang!" to a few trusted cohorts, as I knew folks would flip when they heard it. Dart quickly told me to pump my brakes as they had big things planned for "Bang! Bang!" and I'd just have to bide my time...

Fast forward, still riding the success of their debut single, Cappuccino," (and its remix) The KnuX (Al and Krispy Millio) are back with the second single, "Bang! Bang!", from their forthcoming debut LP, Remind Me In 3 Days, (recently awarded an XL by XXL Magazine), which will be released by Interscope Records on 10-14-08.

(One of my favorite "bloggers" out there, and CEO, Head Honcho, Supreme Cheese, El Numero Uno, and all that of Beat Garden comes with a track from his upcoming mixtape "Bring Me The Head of Zilla Rocca".....should be good! Trav)

Just wanted to break you off with the freshest jamboree from my upcoming mixtape BRING ME THE HEAD OF ZILLA ROCCA.

I had this one up a while ago I guess, but dammit, this is the new, improved, chemically altered version with a better mixdown and a whole new Neptunes-type beat for Nico's verse (he goes last--he was eating a chicken parm sandwich when we originally recorded this bad boy).

ENJOY!!!

Opio Hosts Hierocast

Opio returns as host of latest Hieroglyphics video podcast

Del The Funky Homosapien, founding member of legendary collective The Hieroglyphics, introduces Souls of Mischief's Opio with much praise as host of the latest episode of Hiero Imperium's exclusive podcast, the Hierocast. Opio's entrance is a fierce one: freestyling for almost a minute, Opio gives listeners an earful of the rhymes they thirst for. Joining him is Architect, producer of Opio's second solo album, Vulture's Wisdom, Volume One. Opio starts by giving us the meaning behind the title of the album, as well as his and Architect's approach to recording it. They explain, "We sat back from afar and we just peeped the whole game. Everywhere we looked, everybody was just like. 'Man it's dead, there's nothing here, it's useless now.' Where other people saw nothing, we swooped in with the vulture's wisdom. We can eat right here."

Throughout the 11th edition, the Hierocast gives fans a chance to see the motivation behind creating the new album. Opio and Architect comment on how they produced the album, "Whatever ideas we had, we had to put them down. Thoughts were coming out and they were getting recorded." This is why Opio and Architect put down enough material to fill three whole albums. Look for the second and third volumes soon.

Opio will be touring this summer and fall in support of the album with Hieroglyphics. Dates available here.

Opio - "Original Lyricist"
	07.29.2008

Classically-styled track name-checks Bill Bellicheck, Johnny Cash, and The Big Lebowski

The Song & Video: In the latest single from Vulture's Wisdom, Volume 1, Oakland-based emcee Opio sets the video for the song "Original Lyricist" at McAfee Coliseum, home of the Oakland Raiders. Shot entirely in grayscale (matching the team's trademark black and silver colors), it gives a straightforward, no hype visual that gives Opio room to run with his lyrics. The classically-styled track name-checks Bill Bellicheck, Johnny Cash, and The Big Lebowski without a blink, stumble, or pause on Opio's part. He rhymes, "It go me and my fellowship / represent intelligence in the championship / I'm sick like Bill Belichick." Aggressive, assertive, and fast - his flow could teach the Raiders a few lessons for next season.
