304 Posse Mix
Here is DJ Quik's "Red Tape". This is what cause all the ruckus with MC Eiht. This too is a rip of a swap meet mix tape, just lettin ya know bout the quality ;) On track #4 Quik said, "to the top of the tree for C.M.W. to see". And if you listen, it was never a diss. If you check out "Let You Have It" by Quik he says, "We wasn't dissin, just lettin you know the other side was on a mission". Anyway people were wanting this tape, so be on to you, here it is:
Red Tape

I don't think this tape was controversial so much for the 'dissing' or calling out of CMW/MC Eiht as much as it was controversial because of Quik being a Compton Blood and Eiht being a crip.
Quik's lyrics such as "to the top of the tree.." is a reference to his CPT set the Tree Top Piru Bloods. Also his lyrics about 'shooting crabs in the back' and 'watching their heads jerk' wasn't exactly a love letter to crips and Eiht either.
A lot of Quik's crew such as 2nd II None and Hi-C were also Compton(or Bompton!) Bloods.
I met a lot of these cats back in the, either at the Rodium swapmeet whilst buying Dr. Dre and Tony A. mixtapes or, for example with 2nd II None at a liquor store in Watts.
No shit.
I happened to be at the Rodium one day when they were shooting Hi-C's video for "I'm not your Puppet":

You can see me wearing a black hat and sporting a curl and beard at :36 and 2:55 to the right of Hi-C.
Yes I was going through a mad Cube phase! ;p
benovite, i was merely mention the eiht/quik fued becuase quik himself sampled the mentioned clip of song #4 for one of his other songs in which he was talking about the beef. he was telling eiht to listen to what he was actually saying. i think eiht heard about the mention in passing and assumed quik was dissing him due to the blood/crip dynamic.
Oh yeah word, I'm not trying negate anything you mentioned man. =)
Matter of fact this isn't even the REAL Quik underground tape that had been circulating around the [blood] streets of L.A. that I thought it was.
With this upload there's a lot of references and mentions of 'trees', CPT blood streets and the actual mentioning of shooting "rickets", e-rickets aka crips(yeah long before e-bay they were known as e-rickets lol), but the real Quik underground tape went into detail about shooting crips and such. He didn't hold much back.
Eiht, the CPT crip, took objection to that. Especially when Quik called OUT Eiht at the Source awards in the mid-90's while Eiht was looking on at the front of the stage.
Colors, colors, colors, colors, yeah it can be that stupid.
Red and blue states anyone?
thanks for the all the info. i will have to check that source awards out again. i have it recorded on vhs and hope to put it to dvd soon.
I didn't think that this was the real tape, since it has other artists on it. the sound quality varies too much song to song and it has some songs of his quik's first album.
