QUESTION:
According to an interview with Pete & Serch on "Yo! MTV Raps", the song "Steppin' To The A.M.", which was produced by The Bomb Squad, was originally offered to another group. This group turned it down. Who was this group?
Good luck......

You got me stumped here Trav - I'm gutted! Done a little internet research and still can't find it... and I would have been first!

Just for fun, I sent this question along to my guy whose a HUGE 3rd Bass fan... can't wait to see if he knows it. Myself, I'm stumped.
I'll have a stab with Ice Cube... I know they did work on Amerikka's Most Wanted which as you know dropped a year after The Cactus Album. Can't front on a man for trying!
I believe it was Eric B. & Rakim.

Queazy has it. I tried to find hard concrete evidence but couldn't, but I remember it being said on "Yo!" back in the day.
Queazy, send me an email to the contact link with your address and which CD you'd like.
My guess is Public Enemy, since they were so close to that group.

Bastard!
I knew it was Eric B & Rakim, but I didn't check this quick enough I guess. I actually thought it was "The Gas Face" they passed up on, and I even mentioned it in my writeup for The Gas Face for our top 100 list (sorry to spoil it, I won't say what number it is though). Now I'm going to have to go back and change it, as to not look like a schmuck. I could have swore it was Gas Face though.
the answer was also published in Ego Trips big book of rap lists, was it not?
